IHS Nigeria partners with NSCDC to protect telecoms infrastructure

IHS Nigeria, a subsidiary of IHS Towers, has formed a strategic partnership with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to enhance the protection of critical telecommunications infrastructure across the country. Under a new Memorandum of Understanding, both organizations will work together to safeguard IHS Nigeria’s assets, including its over 16,000 towers and 15,000km of fiber, from theft and sabotage.

This collaboration addresses a growing problem of vandalism and theft that has persisted despite government efforts to designate telecom infrastructure as Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII). According to recent reports, major telcos in Nigeria have reported up to 43 fiber cuts per day, costing the industry an estimated NGN27 billion (US$23 million) in repairs and lost revenue in 2023 alone.

The NSCDC will support IHS Nigeria through site surveillance, emergency responses, and by assisting in the investigation and prosecution of alleged site violators. According to the CEO of IHS Nigeria, this partnership is a crucial step toward creating a more secure operational environment and ensuring better quality and reliability of telecoms connectivity for all users in Nigeria.
