The Niger State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to the state’s urban renewal and infrastructure development agenda. Officials from the Ministry of Works confirmed that all infrastructure projects initiated since 2023, including the construction of 5km roads in each of the 25 local government areas, are proceeding as planned. They also reassured the public that a strategic funding plan is in place to ensure all ongoing projects are completed without delays.
Addressing public concerns about the slow pace of work on some projects, the Commissioner for Works clarified that the delays are a temporary and normal occurrence caused by the rainy season. He explained that heavy rainfall hampers certain construction activities, particularly road works, and that a strategic adjustment of operations is necessary until the dry season begins.
Furthermore, officials dispelled fears about contractors abandoning sites and permanent job losses. They explained that any temporary suspension of workers is a standard practice in the construction industry during the off-season. They emphasized that the government has a policy requiring contractors to prioritize local content, ensuring that workers are not permanently laid off and are expected to return to their sites once the weather improves.
