The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) is the umbrella organisation for the Engineering profession in Nigeria. The Society looks after the professional needs of members through well structured programmes and regular interactions among the different cadre of membership, enhancing high professional standards and ethical practices.
The organisation was founded on February 16, 1958 in the United Kingdom. The NSE was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission as a company Limited by Guarantee, not having a share capital in 1967. The original Memorandum and Articles of Association were amended on December 1, 1998. Like some of its counterparts in other professions, the Society has distinguished itself through progressive and imaginative programmes to become the avenue for the professional development of its members as well as technological development of the country.
Currently, the NSE has a total membership strength of over eighty thousand (80,000) Engineers. In its operational structure, the Society has ninety-four (94) Branches spread across Nigeria and in the diaspora, as well as twenty-five (25) Divisions spread across specialised lines of engineering disciplines.
The NSE has sustained its national membership of all the regional, continental and global Engineering organisations for many decades. NSE’s active participation at the international professional arena has earned the Society recognition and respect. Along that line, members of the Society have attained positions such as President, West African Federation of Engineering Organisations (WAFEO), President, Federation of African Engineering Organisations (FAEO), and President, World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO).
The current President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers is Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, FNSE, F.ASCE, FAEng, MFR. Engr. Rabiu has a robust professional career in engineering spanning over 30 years, which include service in various administrative and managerial capacities in the public and private sectors. His tenure as President subsists from January 2026 to December 2027.
